From the Treasurer

I am pleased to report that our organization is of solid financial status.

The WVAHPERD Board tries hard to be frugal with your finances and eliminate any unnecessary items; thus, we moved from a paper copy of the newsletter to an online version and have found not-for-profit organizations to do much of our printing needs. Also, we have not raised conference registration fees for a few years. We have been trying to keep membership costs to a minimum as well.

I would like to encourage you to visit our website,, often for updates and future events as well as related topics of interest to our field.

Also, please consider visiting and joining our national organization to assist in improve teaching strategies and program ideas. Networking at both the state and national levels can be invaluable.

We are currently in the process of planning our 2017 state convention to be held in Shepherdstown on October 26 and 27. Shepherdstown is a quaint, historic town and I think that you will find it a lovely experience. Our convention will be held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference center there. The Clarion offers a full gymnasium as well as activity rooms, breakout rooms and lounges for our use.

I hope that you will start making plans to attend. This year’s convention will have some new twists to it as we consider member input and try to make those suggestions come to fruition. For example, the awards dinner banquet will be held on Thursday night with a favorite team theme. Karaoke social night will be held Friday night. Past Presidents’ dinner has been moved to Friday evening and the Board/RA meeting for elections has been scheduled for noon on Thursday.

If you hold Jump Rope for Heart/Hoop events, your award meal will now be included in the banquet rather than a stand-alone event. Be sure to check out our online schedule as time nears. Pre-registration will benefit both the attendee and the staff working the registration desk. Please consider pre-registering for our 96th , yes, our 96th WVAHPERD state convention. See you in Shepherdstown!
